Bend Over and Submit to InterAccess! An Open Call for Recent Graduates!

Deadline: Friday April 25th, 2008

Let us tie you up in an exhibition this summer. Submissions are now being accepted for the 8th annual Emerging Artists' Exhibition. Since 2001, InterAccess has mounted an annual Emerging Artists' Exhibition showcasing new media works by post-secondary students and/or recent graduates. This initiative aims to provide students and recent graduates with professional experience and exposure.

We are looking for submissions of electronic, interactive and new media work, including works related to artistic genres such as sculpture, installation, video and performance. Preference may be given to submissions exploring the relationship and/or interaction between human intimacy and technology, although due to the fluidity of an open call the theme is responsive and the curator develops an exhibition related to the submissions received.

This exhibition is curated by Shaun Dacey, the 2008 InterAccess Curatorial Internship recipient. Each year InterAccess selects a Curatorial Intern to develop their vision through the organization of the exhibition. Shaun, an emerging curator and educator is a graduate of the University of Toronto/Sheridan College Art and Art History Program. Since graduating in 2006 Shaun has worked as an Educator/Youth Programmes Coordinator at Oakville Galleries while also interning and curating for Sleepwalker Projects in 2007. We proudly welcome Shaun to our team and look forward to his work on this exciting project.

The exhibition will take place at InterAccess from July 11th to August 9th, 2008. Artist fees will be provided for each artist selected. Artists will be responsible for the transportation of their works a week before the opening. The artist is chiefly responsible for installing his or her work, however InterAccess will provide technical assistance and basic audio/visual equipment needs. Deadline for Submissions is Friday April 25th, 2008.

While we welcome submissions from outside of Ontario please be advised that InterAccess cannot cover the cost of travel or shipping.

All submissions must include:
-Artist statement (maximum 1 page)
-Project description (maximum 1 page)
-CV
-Description of technical requirements (listing materials provided by the artist, software and hardware requirements, estimated installations time)
-Audio/visual support material for previous and/or proposed work (DVD and CD ROMS of jpegs are preferred)

Call for Gallery Proposals

Please note: InterAccess does not accept unsolicited submissions of artwork except during calls for submission periods. Please check under "calls and opportunities" for more information. As much as we love art, and being introduced to new artists, if you are not responding to a call, we're afraid we can't respond to your work. We're a relatively small centre and this is all we can manage successfully. Thanks for understanding, and please look out for our calls a few times per year.

InterAccess Electronic Media Arts Centre in Toronto accepts submissions of original projects from emerging, mid-career and established artists, curators and collectives on an annual basis. Our mission is to expand the cultural space of technology, and we achieve this through diverse activities in our gallery and production facilities. We are seeking proposals for our 1,000 sq. ft. gallery space at Queen and Ossington in the heart of Toronto's Queen West Gallery district. We support electronic, interactive and new media works which explore this territory in unique critical ways, including connections and cross-over with sculpture, installation, video, site-specific work and performance art.

This year's deadline: Monday December 3, 2007 by 5:00 p.m.

We can not guarantee a response to your work if you submit for the main gallery outside of this time period. Typically, we require roughly six months to review and select submissions for our main gallery.

Proposals are reviewed by the Director and Assistant Curator in consultation with the InterAccess Programme Advisory Council (PAC), a group of knowledgeable media artists and curators who meet 4-6 times per year to make programming recommendations and help shape the gallery vision. The PAC looks at artistic vision, diversity, representation and budget when considering a proposal. The PAC also considers how the work can sustain a dialogue with activities and workshops in the InterAccess production studio.

This year, InterAccess is prioritizing projects which can facilitate ties with the production studio, and artists who can lead workshops in conjunction with their exhibitions. Before submitting your work, please review our website carefully. It provides a good overview of past artistic content. InterAccess pays artist fees in accordance with CARFAC standards. For a floorplan or photos of our gallery space, please contact Jennifer, Assistant Curator/Education Coordinator: jennifer[dot]cherniack[at]interaccess.org

InterAccess enjoys applicants from all walks of life. We encourage artists of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds to apply.

Please allow up to six months for the complete review of your proposal.

Please include:

-an artist statement
-a project summary (100 words)
-a detailed project description
-a list of artworks, equipment, materials and other resources to be supplied by the artist
-a list of technical requirements, equipment and materials to be supplied by the gallery

-a detailed list of all support materials
-a self-addressed, sufficiently stamped envelope if you want your work returned.

Principles of beta:

i. beta is a response to the demand from our members to have an opportunity to showcase their works in an environment that supports and promotes new media/interactive works.

ii. beta is an ideal opportunity for members to install and test installation or performance-based works.

iii. beta is distinct and separate from InterAccess' main exhibition programming and strives to reflect our members' diversity and activity while adhering to InterAccess' mandate

iv. beta is produced by InterAccess staff and membership council and selects applications when appropriate to beta programming. Submitting an application does not guarantee selection.

v. Due to the nature of this pilot program, beta supports its artists by providing the space, equipment, publicity and staffing, where feasible, with which to realize their installation or performance event. As a result, no artist fee will be provided.

Please note:

Although we realize the importance of showcasing member work, priority is given to InterAccess' main exhibition programming, workshops, and events. While we try to work around InterAccess' main events, participants of beta must be prepared to accept any unexpected changes to programming and scheduling. beta will always take precedence over corporate or non-member related events or rentals.
