ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Morris Fox is a queer new gothic artist & writer, situated in Tiohtiá:ke-Mooniyang-Montréal. He gratefully acknowledges the Kanien’kehá:ka from Kahnawake and Kanehsatà:ke who continue to care for the unceded land on which he resides. Fox’s work tongues & cruises the haunted house for networked emotions. Words & materials become a net, a necropolis, a cemetery of desire. Fox enmeshes performance, video, VR environments, self-fashioning, eco-poetry & textiles, like chainmaille, with queer historiographic research, rubbing the ruins of memory, and the shimmering of
an apocalyptic imaginary.

Mercedes Ventura (she/they) is an emerging interdisciplinary artist based in Odawa/Ottawa, Ontario. Mercedes’ work functions as autobiographical fiction investigating new spaces of the digital era, appropriating signifiers of self—gender, culture, religion, family, nation, and so on—as building blocks to envision works in various media: sculpture, video, and photographic self-portraiture. She has exhibited works in Odawa/Ottawa-Gatineau region and Tkaronto/Toronto in various galleries and artist-run centres.

Ben McCarthy and Tax Haven (Cale Weir) met in an art school recording studio half a decade ago and they now share a gear-strewn garage and a gray cat named Casio. They both make electronic music and new media art in Toronto, Canada. They recently appeared on Imaginary North’s 24hr ambient compilation Today Until Tomorrow.

KARLA is an arts collective born out of a collaboration between Phil Mease, Yoni Newman and Yunjin Claire Lee. Encompassing music production, Djing and visual arts, KARLA curates dreamy and transcendental experiences. Their music is a characteristic blend of Hypnotic Ambient soundscapes, found sound, eclectic percussion, and warehouse beats. Inspired by the underground scene in Toronto, KARLA has been hosting events that showcase live electronic music acts including “Hit Play” monthly series at Dundas Video and the “Karla and Friends Variety Show” events at Cinecycle. Most recently, they mounted an immersive sound Installation piece "Temple Block" at Toronto’s Music Gallery residency.
