MOVES: Doors Open Toronto
Saturday, May 24, 2025 | 10AM – 5PM
In person at InterAccess (32 Lisgar St, Toronto ON)
FREE
MOVES documents the Toronto community as an ever expanding digital dance floor. By transforming videos of people dancing into vibrant specific yet anonymized animations, the project asks us to reflect on the spaces we inhabit together. As the project progresses, it becomes both a playful gathering space for shared joy and a living archive of our city's collective movement.
Stop by InterAccess's community space to dance onto Toronto's digital dancefloor. No dance expertise necessary, just a willingness to move your body! You'll be guided by the artist through recording a 1-5 second move which will then be transformed into a looping dance animation. Your dance will be viewable on the MOVES digital dance floor online and as a public installation at Nuit Blanche 2025.
Presented as part of Doors Open Toronto.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Tara Rose Morris is a mixed desi new media artist based in Tkaronto (Toronto), Canada. She uses technology to create live performances, immersive installations, and artifacts that propose fantastical worlds of embodiment, imagination, and mirage. She is particularly interested into the “invisible interstices that lie between the frames” (McLaren, n.d.), taking frames to mean not just keyframes but also bodies, identities, contexts, datapoints, structures and interstices to mean not just inbetweens but also connections, abstractions, memory, latent space, translations, flickers. She sees technology as a threshold to spaces that refuse these “frames”, allowing us access into liminal ontologies that allow us to connect more deeply with self and with each other.
She has shown various works, including with Gray Area, SXSW XR, VIFF Signals, Superchief Gallery, and NFT NOW. She has developed real-time visual projections for InterAccess, Zora, and Superchief Gallery. She has been an artist in residence with AVAX and Nebraska Art Farm and she is currently a member of NEW INC Y11, focusing on art and code. She has a BA in Media Studies from Pomona College and an MSc in Fiction and Entertainment from SCIArc.
