From Breadboard to Biennale.

Electronics is part art, part science and part craft. The workshop is about the craft, a topic often neglected in modern electronics education. 

We'll learn how to do the hands-on tasks required to brink a project from its origin on a breadboard, to a finished piece that will not fall apart. We'll learn tricks and tips for good breadboarding, soldering techniques for everything from circuit boards to audio connectors, how to mount controls such as switches and potentiometers, how to wire various sorts of connectors, and how to deal with wire and cable, both inside a project, and in larger installations. As this workshop deals only with the physical aspects of electronics, no previous electronic knowledge is required! Ideal for those learning electronics, for those wanting to build electronic kits, or for those who know the theory, but have trouble building the objects. In other words, everyone.

About the instructor

Rob Cruickshank, an IA board member and our resident genius, is a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist. He works in various media including electronic and robotic installations, sound art, electroacoustic music, and photography, and has been exhibited in Toronto, and internationally. Rob has developed a number of workshops at InterAccess, providing an opportunity to learn electronics, and has assisted numerous artists with the technological challenges of realizing their works.
