Hinge, OCAD on Queen 2010
As part of the OCAD on QUEEN 4th-Year Sculpture/Installation exhibtion series, Hinge will take place at Interaccess Electronic Media Arts Centre and will feature diverse installation works by artists Robin Fitzsimons, Tim Manalo and Alize Zorlutuna.
As the flexible connection between two things, a hinge enables the conjunction of different elements, while maintaining their separation. Each of the artists works featured in Hinge, occupies this territory, highlighting points of conjunction between seemingly conflicting elements. Exploring mythologies surrounding notions of traditional values Robin Fitzsimons' works evoke these ideals while their materiality and presentation simultaneously challenge them. Tim Manalo's works play with our initial expectations through their material re-configuration, scale and proximity to each other and audience members. His use of electronics, interactivity and light push us to re-evaluate our relationship to objects and spaces. Alize Zorlutuna's immersive audio-video installations invite the audience to activate interstices where differing historical, phenomenological and cultural perspectives come together.
