Introduction to Max 7

Thursday May 7, 7-10pm

In this first workshop, we will learn the ins and outs of the Max 7 programming environment as well as some universal concepts to most programming languages as well as electronics. To do this, we will learn the basics of manipulating both pre-recorded and live video feeds in real-time! There is no prerequisite knowledge for this workshop; we’re starting from scratch. Basic knowledge of audio/video an asset.

Introduction to Interactive Audio

Thursday May 14, 7-10pm

In this second workshop, we will get familiar with the basics of digital audio and how to use live audio to make sound reactive work!

Introduction to Interactive Video

Thursday May 21, 7-10pm

One of the most essential techniques when creating an interactive work is determining when a user is present to engage with the piece. In the third workshop of this series, we will learn how to detect when a user using a webcam as input to initiate interactive events. Basic understanding of Max or attendance at the Introduction to Max 7 Workshop is required.

An Example of a Project That Uses Max:
David Rokeby needs no introduction and often tends to use Max as a major component for his projects. His piece Watch (1995-2008) uses some of the same basic techniques that we will discuss in this workshop.

What To Bring:

You'll need a laptop. A Mac is preferable, but Max runs on PCs, too, and our instructor Kyle has experience in both environments.

For PC’s: Quicktime must be installed! Also, install the 32-Bit version of Max not the 64-bit!

You'll have to download and install the Max 7 trial here: http://cycling74.com/downloads/. The Max 7 Demo only works for 30 days! So don't install and run this until just before the workshop. Passed your trial date and don’t want to buy the full copy? Max 7 now has a $10 / month subscription model!

Registration Price:

$45 (Members - Single Workshop)

$135 (Members - All 3 Workshops)

$60 (Non-Members - Single Workshop)

$180 (Non-Members - All 3 Workshops)
