Alternative Arcade: Hardware for Accessible Play

Deconstruct Hand Eye Society's Torontron arcade cabinets and learn how to incorporate classic and custom arcade controllers into your digital games. Facilitated by Hand Eye Society's Artistic Director, Brendan Lehman, with a disability justice lens by Game Art Residency curator Bracy Appeikumoh. 

Workshop Requirements

Participants should bring a laptop with USB ports or an adapter. If you are unable to bring your own, please reach out to art@interaccess.org to reserve one of our studio laptops. 

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Brendan ‘Brendy’ Lehman (they/them) is a neuroscientist, interactive media artist, and arts programmer based in Toronto, Canada. Projects in biodata-driven software development, interactive installation, and game curation all aim to capture contexts of togetherness and help people connect with themselves, each other, and their natural environment in new and meaningful ways. Currently the Artistic Director of the Hand Eye Society, they have worked at Muse: The Brain-sensing Headband and have had their work or workshops featured at the Venice International Film Festival (Immersive), A MAZE. / Berlin, MIT Media Lab, The Science of Consciousness, Resonite VR, InterAccess, and others.

ABOUT HAND EYE SOCIETY 

Hand Eye Society is a Toronto not-for-profit that showcases and nurtures videogames made primarily for creative expression. Founded in 2009, it is one of the the oldest videogame arts organization of its kind in the world.


Accessibility Information: We are located on the second floor of the building, which is accessible by two flights of stairs or an elevator. The front entrance has an automatic push door and is accessible by ramp or a short flight of stairs. Inside, all InterAccess facilities are on the same level, including a single-user accessible washroom.
